HMS TERN, ORKNEY

Celebrating Orkney’s WWII aviation history

HMS Tern is a very special site which holds a significant place in the history and identity of Orkney. The Birsay Heritage Trust has been working for many years to develop a vision for the site’s future which simultaneously offers an important heritage resource for both local community members and visitors to Orkney, provides a fitting memorial to the men and women who served at HMS Tern during WWII and secures a sustainable future for the iconic buildings the site contains. We are working to help deliver BHT’s vision together with Narro Associates (Structural Engineers) and Morham & Brotchie Partnership (Quantity Surveyors), including developing designs for a variety of interventions, refurbishments and new buildings across the site.
