Transforming a late-Victorian townhouse on the beach-front

Balderstone House sits sandwiched between two adjacent townhouse blocks. Our client’s brief was to transform and revitalise this late-Victorian townhouse to make it better suited for modern living, more sustainable, and extending its life into the next century. Their ambition was to holistically reconsider the internal layout of the building, exploring options for alterations or extensions to better capitalise on the beach-front location. Internally, the layout will be altered to create an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, through which a dramatic architectural stair will ascend. Substantial improvements to the building fabric and services will improve the building’s overall energy efficiency and reduce its operational environmental impacts.
