SOUTHSIDE BYRE
Conversion of an agricultural building into a new home
We were delighted to work on this project which sits alongside one of our completed buildings, The Mill. There has been a settlement at this location since the middle of the 18th Century with the majority of the current buildings dating from the latter half of the 19th Century. Designs for the Byre project consist of the conversion of a redundant agricultural building into a new house constructed as a new timber-frame structure sitting within the existing stone walls. The designs follow the language of the Mill conversion, with raised eaves and black stained timber cladding set back from the existing stonework. Although contemporary in design, the forms and detailing reflect the other buildings of the steading; maintaining and enhancing its historic character.
